Notice in the 2 Feb 1933 Ida Grove Paper:
MRS. GUST BILSTENE CLAIMED BY DEATH
After a lingering illness of nearly a year, Mrs. Gust Bilstene passed away Tuesday, 24 jan
1933. She was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, 29 June 1868 and was therefore 64
years, 6 months and 26 days at the time of her death. In the home in the old country grew up
six daughters and two sons, all of whom are now dead except Mrs. Hannah Larson of
Hollywood, California.
Annie Sonnichsen as her name was before her marriage came with her family to Chicago
when she was about five years of age and two years later to this community, where she has
since resided. She was married to Mr. Bilstene 2 October 1889 and three children grew up in
the happy home: Ethel Edith Catherine, (Mrs. Roy Linman), Earl Ernest and Lester R. Bilstene.
There are three grandchildren: Burnell, Evangeline and Marion Linman, besides a large
number of relatives here and in other places. Mrs. Bilstene was converted early in life and was
baptized and became a member of Arthur Baptist church 17 June 1888 and has been a
consistent Christian, loved and respected by all who knew her. She was of a kind, sunny and
loving disposition and bore her sickness bravely and patiently.
The funeral service was held in the home and Arthur Baptist church conducted by the pastor,
P. Lovene. The Misses Minnie and Evelyn Johnson sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and
with Miss Olive Samuelson the song "Oh Think of the Home Over there". Mrs. Frank Lindquist
served as pianist. The pallbearers were: Nels Bergman, Elmer Johnson, F. E. Heitman, K. J.
Palm, John Petersen, and Albert Barker. Interment was made in Hayes cemetery. The large
audience and the rich floral offering bore silent testimony to the esteem in which the Bilstene
family is held. Telegrams were received from the Eckman, Arthur Lindberg and Larsen family of
California.
