Birth: Apr. 28, 1854 Death: Jan. 28, 1937 Nils Johnston was born 28 April 1854 in Fränninge socken, Malmöhus, Sweden, coming to America when fifteen years of age. For two years he worked in Maryland and Illinois then coming directly to this locality where he has resided ever since. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Peterson in the year 1882, when they established their home in Ida county, just across the line from Crawford county, and that was his home up to the time of his death of 82 years, 8 months and 29 days. To this union seven children were born, four sons and three daughters, the one son, Elmer, passed away in 1928. Those who survive are Robert at home; Emma, Mrs. Otto Ang, of Arthur; Sophia, Mrs. Walter Carlson, of Kiron; Albert of Englewood, Colorado; Margaret at home; and Martin of Kiron. He also leaves two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, seven grand children and one brother, Anders Johnson of Denison. Two sisters, Mrs. Ingre Nelson and Anna Mortenson, and one brother, S. I. Lindstrom, preceded him in death. He was always interested in Civic affairs and for a number of years serves as president of the Farmer's Lumber and Grain Company of Kiron and at present was one of the directors. He has also served as township assessor and school director for many terms.
