He preferred being called "Frank". He and Iva Jenkins eloped in a horse and buggy to Danville,
Vermilion Co, IL in 1918. Their first years were very lean as Frank struggled to make a living
being a tenant farmer. He cashed in his life insurance policy to buy 120 acres of farmland near
Odell, Livingston County, Illinois during the lean years of the Depression. After he retired from
farming, he and Iva traveled around the country in a small RV. For awhile, they wintered in
Florida. After selling their farm, they moved to Gibson City, and then permanently settled in
Clermont, Florida. After Iva died in 1985, Frank lived with his daughter in Tennessee, then his
daughter-in-law in Texas until his death. Frank was a very decent, honest man; if he gave his
word, he considered it his bond. He said Grace before each meal and set a strong, loving
example for his children and grandchildren.
