PETERSEN, August L. August L. Petersen was born the son of Jurgen and Adeline Lorenzen Petersen, Nov. 8, 1893, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He died Sunday, April 1, 1990, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 96 years. August lived on the farm where he was born for 80 years. He was baptized April 23, 1894, and confirmed April 4, 1909. He received his education in the rural schools. August and Mahala Johannsen were united in marriage Feb. 2, 1916, at the farm home with Rev. Wm. Frese officiation. To this union nine children were born. August and Mahala farmed until 1973, when they moved to Denison. In the fall of 1985, they moved to Eventide Lutheran Home where they made their home. August was a member at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. In addition to his parents, August was preceded in death by his wife, Mahala, March 23, 1987; one daughter, Marie Marten; seven brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren. His survivors include his children: Margaret and her husband, Marvine Petersen of Denison, John Petersen and his wife Loueen of Denison, Anna and her husband Wilbur Harm of Denison, Edmund Petersen and his wife Marion of Denison, Leonard Petersen and his wife Arlis of Ute, Berniece and her husband Carl Segebart of Vail, Earl Petersen and his wife Barbara of Lake Park, Minn., Betty and her husband Don Bilsten of Denison; and one son-in-law, Ralph Marten of Denison; also 44 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Caroline Petersen of Glidden and Bertha Stone of Cedar Rapids. Funeral servies were held at Zion Lutheran.......(end is missing)
